StartupResources.io — Issue #83
Hi, it’s Jói, and yes that means it’s Friday again.
I’m kind of excited about this issue’s tool of the week, slackin, as it frees me from manually inviting each person who requests a Slack invite, and hopefully will help grow our Slack community. Get yourself invited here if you’re not already part of the community. It’s full of friendly, knowledgeable folks. Just make sure to participate and try to give more than you get.
Tool of the week
slackin: Public Slack organizations made easy
Provides a way for folks to self-invite to public Slack communities, like the StartupResources.io one. Anybody running a public Slack community should check it out. This tool is perhaps a little technical to set up, but no coding skills are required if you want to deploy it on Azure, just fill in some API keys and things you need to gather from Slack and Google reCAPTCHA.
Tools I actually used recently
Quuu Promote
I use this regularly for both CrankWheel and StartupResources.io whenever there is a new blog post of general interest. It’s a fairly inexpensive way to get your content shared widely on social media by folks using Quuu’s suggestions for social media, but note that you need to have a generally interesting blog post, rather than a pure sales pitch for your product or service.
Now — Realtime global deployments
Discovered this one when I was setting up slackin. It’s a very neat command-line tool to spin up a new publicly-available website based on Docker or Node.js or a new static website by just running the ‘now’ command in the folder where your website code exists. Free for several sites as long as you’re OK with your back-end code being publicly accessible. Note though I don’t think the free plan is suitable for long-running websites, just for test sites e.g. to show a client progress.
Wildna.me: Find better domains with wildcards and filters
Pretty neat free tool for brainstorming domain name ideas. Lets you use wildcards and other tricks to find innovative names.

Froala Design Blocks
I like the idea of this set of HTML blocks because I can’t design worth 💩 but I know what I like when I see it. Over 170 responsive design blocks to use in web or mobile apps, all based on Bootstrap.

That’s it for this issue
It’s been a busy week for me, with several more to come. We’re finalizing CrankWheel’s WordPress plug-in, launching our affiliate program and more, all in the next few days, and hopefully launching something very exciting at Salesforce’s Dreamforce. So I’ll get back to work and th-th-th-th-th-th-that’s all folks!
Have a great weekend,
Cheers,
Jói
